Why is there no ATA Certification exam in my language combination?

It's a fair question. The answer comes down to demand, team work, training, passage selection, and grading standards—and hundreds of volunteer hours in between.

The majority of the work is done by the members of the workgroup who desire testing in that combination. The role of the Certification Committee and ATA staff is to provide guidance, information, and oversight to facilitate the process.

Since this work is done by volunteers, it is important to be aware of the time and effort involved. The process can take several years and requires a dedicated and knowledgeable workgroup.

ATA Certification Committee Chair David Stephenson explains it all in Episode 22 of The ATA Podcast.
